This is a letter from Atarangi to all of you who have met Papa.

Dear friends, brothers, sisters, all,
It is with a heavy heart that I share with you all about the death today of
Papa Joe.  He died doing what he loved, teaching and laughing with people,
and so it is.   A legacy now carries on in the many that he taught.  Such a gifted man,
such a gift.
Thank you all for being part of this.
Do send prayers for his family at this time.  Our love is nurturing them as is yours.

We are attending the funeral or tangi as we call it, down at his tribal home
on the East Coast of NZ.  Papa had a deep love for this land, and so we
shall return him to the true mother, Papa-tua-nuku (Earth Mother).  On
behalf of Papa's family and the many, many we met over the years of
travelling to your shores, we say thank you from the bottom of our humble
hearts.

Our tears will spill, our hearts will mend, never will we forget....

Arohanui Atarangi.

Thank you all for visiting and sharing.
Love to you all, michaela

Papa's funeral was Sunday  Septembert 24th, 2006  Thank you for sending your prayers.

I have created this webpage to celebrate and remember the life of Hohepa Delamare, lovingly known by many as Papa Joe.

Papa has left this Earth on Wednesday, September 20th 2006 (September 21st in New Zealand).
He died doing what he loved, teaching and laughing with people. He was loved deeply and is missed by many.

I hope this website will serve as a place to share stories, send prayers to his family, and to celebrate his rich life.

Even though I am very sad by his sudden departure I feel blessed and extremely fortunate to come in contact with his big heart and his incredible gift. I will never forget him.

Papa was an incredible teacher, big teddy bear, a man who have touched many hearts and transformed many lives.

Please sign into our guestbook to send prayers to his wife Joanne and the rest of the family, I am sure it would mean a lot to them.
Feel free to share any thoughts and memories of Papa as well. I am sure there are many.

new book about Papa and the Maoris:

Returning to the Void
Papa Joe, Maori Healings & Teachings

"Returning to the Void" came into manifestation per the request of Hohepa Delamere, alias Papa Joe, who is a widely known and highly respected Maori elder and healer from New Zealand. Together with other healers he came to the USA and also to Europe to help people outside his home soil. Their tremendous success abroad has been a result of successfully addressing the whole being instead of just treating symptoms, and in that way, achieving hundreds of "miracle healings."

In June 2005 Papa Joe met Iris Loesel in California and asked her to help preserve Maori knowledge by writing about it. Iris, who was new to Maori healing, was given a spiritual transfer of knowledge by Papa Joe and by that was enabled to channel this book. The final text was read and approved by Papa Joe. This is the first of a series of books about Papa Joe and his teachings on Maori wisdom and healing.

Thank you Iris for your wonderful book!
